URL Ninja is a high energy dashboard designed for Hanami Software. It transforms a standard utility, an URL shortening, into a gamified gateway. The project was conceived to serve internal software needs while simultaneously driving engagement for Hanami’s upcoming "Ninja Game" ecosystem.
The primary objective was to create a tool that felt less like a chore and more like a video game experience, connecting a dry productivity tool with the lore and mechanics of a videogame. The UX Challenge was integrating advanced features like AI-powered previews without cluttering the interface or slowing down the user’s primary task and smooth the gamification experience without taking all the space.
Due to budget constraints, I conducted a qualitative study across digital marketing and developer forums. I investigated the daily workflow of power users who manage dozens of links simultaneously. The research revealed a common productivity bottleneck: users often generate shortened URLs in a rush, choosing generic or non memorable slugs. When revisiting their dashboard, users couldn't distinguish between multiple active campaigns without clicking each link to check the destination. This "click-check-back" cycle was a major pain point, causing unnecessary tab loading and wasting time during high pressure marketing windows.
Usage is rewarded through an integrated scoring system. Every link created and click tracked contributes to a Ninja Rank, directly feeding into the user’s profile within the broader Hanami gaming world.
To increase clicks efficiency, I designed an AI-driven preview system. On hover, a dynamic card generates an instant summary of the destination site, including a title, preview image, and a short description, allowing users to peek before they click.
The project was built using a comprehensive design system with Figma variables to ensured the project’s scalability and longevity. Understanding that the project might face pauses in development, I built the system to be entirely self sustaining by meticulously organizing design tokens and documenting components. When Hanami Software is ready to resume development, any new designer or developer can step in and maintain 100% visual consistency without needing my direct supervision.
URL Ninja idea launched with significant internal momentum and high hype. However, due to shifting internal budget priorities at Hanami Software, the project was put on hold before the final rollout. It remains a core example of my ability to design complex, high-fidelity prototypes that push the boundaries of standard SaaS tools.
